Voice of the People Verse 1 I've never made love to a mic The mic is just something I like, man I cannot liken the mic to a girl For 'she' is not something I grip, manipulate, brandish & twirl And forget about control It amplifies my voice, displays my soul Instead, I liken the mic to me I am the one receiving signals from the Almighty And translating to a broad horizon Reaching more areas than Verizon Problem is I get the wires crossed Mixed messages then the signal gets lost (I've been) Dented and battered, dropped and kicked Think this emcee's fresh, I'm none too slick Praise God there's truth from something dumb If you like the sound then 'turn me up some' Chorus You, you got to grow, emcee It's not just the flow, emcee You're the voice of the people Inspired by God! Emcee, get on your job! Verse 2 I am not the best I have never claimed to be the best So you are not rocking with the best And if I was the best, I could only foresee elevated stress 'Cause fame is a mess Instead I’m on my j-o-b, I am pressed To demonstrate the glory of Christ's best dress Express the tests & life duress And how I found blessing within my life’s mess I am not the nicest emcee I just don’t want to be a divisive emcee I’m the guy you call in a crisis emcee I got the pie and ain’t afraid to slice it emcee But we are not the same, if you’re going to call it a game It's never been a game to me It’s a shame to me, 'cause some are going mentally lame For the thing they shoot in their veins So call me chiroprac - I’ma straighten out your spine And then enlighten some minds To avoid the mines (explosive) Call me the pharmacist (?) cause I got the dosage In my life’s work Mr. Holland’s Opus Lack of understanding is the diagnosis Treatment: gotta break free and grow this Let this movement keep moving, you know this!

about

Voice of the People

Verse 1
I've never made love to a mic
The mic is just something I like, man
I cannot liken the mic to a girl
For 'she' is not something I grip, manipulate, brandish & twirl
And forget about control
It amplifies my voice, displays my soul
Instead, I liken the mic to me
I am the one receiving signals from the Almighty

And translating to a broad horizon
Reaching more areas than Verizon
Problem is I get the wires crossed
Mixed messages then the signal gets lost
(I've been) Dented and battered, dropped and kicked
Think this emcee's fresh, I'm none too slick
Praise God there's truth from something dumb
If you like the sound then 'turn me up some'

Chorus
You, you got to grow, emcee
It's not just the flow, emcee
You're the voice of the people
Inspired by God!
Emcee, get on your job!

Verse 2
I am not the best
I have never claimed to be the best
So you are not rocking with the best
And if I was the best, I could only foresee elevated stress
'Cause fame is a mess
Instead I’m on my j-o-b, I am pressed
To demonstrate the glory of Christ's best dress
Express the tests & life duress
And how I found blessing within my life’s mess

I am not the nicest emcee
I just don’t want to be a divisive emcee
I’m the guy you call in a crisis emcee
I got the pie and ain’t afraid to slice it emcee
But we are not the same, if you’re going to call it a game
It's never been a game to me
It’s a shame to me, 'cause some are going mentally lame
For the thing they shoot in their veins

So call me chiroprac - I’ma straighten out your spine
And then enlighten some minds
To avoid the mines (explosive)
Call me the pharmacist (?) cause I got the dosage
In my life’s work Mr. Holland’s Opus
Lack of understanding is the diagnosis
Treatment: gotta break free and grow this
Let this movement keep moving, you know this!
